The Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled health professional who plays an important role as a member of the health care team in a variety of medical settings. The Medical Assistant program introduces students to anatomy and physiology of the body systems, medical terminology, and required clinical and administrative skills needed for an entry-level Medical Assistant position. Students will engage in ""hands on" training in clinical and administrative procedures such as injections, veni-puncture, telephone techniques, filing and preparation of medical records. After successful completion of all classroom training, the student will then complete an externship in a healthcare setting.
Graduates from the diploma program are prepared to seek entry-level positions such as: Clinical Medical Assistant, Administrative Medical Assistant, Medical receptionist, Medical Bookkeeper, and Laboratory Assistant.
The Associate of Applied Science Degree Program provides the foundation for a graduate to seek more expanded career opportunities in the field of medical assisting and prepares them for future career advancement.
Each course stands alone as a single unit of study and is not dependent upon prerequisite training. A student may enter the program at the beginning of any course and continue through the sequence until the completion of all courses.
Students will complete an externship in a medical setting, after successfully completing all classroom and laboratory training.
